I don't think I will ever be able to understand these (let alone inverse proportions..)
any help anyone?! Shocked

If you can, the easiest way is always to go back to 'one thing', & then see what you want from there. Very Happy Can you give me an example? If i make one up then it might not be what you're looking for.

Its only when the question asks for a formula for it that it gets worse. Did you get the notes on proportion? 4 steps...

1. See what the question is asking & write the formula (using k for the constant you don't know)
2. Put in the pair of values they gave in the 1st wordy bit
3. Rearrange to find k
4. Write the finished formula with the value for k!

errr - eg: "y is directly proportional to the square of x. When x = 5, y = 150. Find an equation for y in terms of x"

The 1st sentence tells you its direct proportion. The 2nd gives you the pair of values needed & the 3rd tells you it wants that equation.

So answer...

y = kx^2 (i can't do powers on here so x^2 means x squared, ok?)
150 = 25k <-- step 2
k = 6 <-- solve for k

So equation is y = 6x^2.

Any good?
